Ameren’s Smart Grid Investments Strengthen Missouri’s Energy Infrastructure

Ameren is enhancing grid resilience across the state through its ongoing Smart Grid build-out. In Moberly alone, nine new smart switches have been added, bringing the total to 350 installed across central Missouri. Statewide, more than 2,000 smart devices are now in place, working around the clock to monitor the system.

These technologies are designed to automatically detect issues, isolate outages, and reroute power in real time. The impact is measurable: since the initial rollout, Ameren reports these smart devices have prevented more than 330,000 customer outages across Missouri.

Ameren and community leaders agree that reliability is essential for residents, employers, and critical services provided by state agencies.

For companies considering where to locate or expand, utility performance is a key factor in site selection. Through continued upgrades by Ameren and other providers, Missouri is strengthening its ability to deliver consistent, resilient power, reducing risk for operations that depend on uptime.
“What we’re trying to achieve is to become the least-risky location for somebody that’s looking to invest or grow or locate,” said Jefferson City Regional Economic Partnership President Luke Holtschneider in an interview with KBIA.
