Missouri Joins the Nation in Celebrating America 250

As the United States marks the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in 2026, communities across Missouri are coming together to celebrate the people, places, and events that have shaped both the state and the nation.

Through the statewide Show-Me America 250 initiative, Missourians are invited to educate, engage, and celebrate this historic milestone through local events, educational programs, community projects, and commemorations. The effort highlights Missouri’s unique role in the American story—from westward expansion and innovation to the individuals and communities that have helped shape the nation’s future. 

One recent example is the new “Stars, Stripes and Celebrations” exhibit at the Missouri State Capitol, which explores how generations of Missourians have commemorated major national anniversaries. Developed by students and researchers from the University of Missouri’s Kinder Institute on Constitutional Democracy, the exhibit showcases artifacts and stories that connect Missouri’s history to the broader American experience.
