Celebrating Manufacturing Day in Missouri

In honor of Manufacturing Day, we are celebrating one of Missouri’s largest industries: Manufacturing. According to the Bureau of Economic Analysis, manufacturing contributed 12 percent ($50.54 billion) of the 2023 total Gross State Product (GSP). Missouri’s diverse manufacturing industry includes the production of aerospace equipment, automotive products, chemicals, food and beverage, and more.

Missouri’s food manufacturing sector employs more than 44,000 people in Missouri, underscoring the state’s leading role in U.S. food production, particularly in agriculture-related manufacturing like food processing.

Missouri is an attractive manufacturing hub in North America, with a competitive, business-friendly environment, a skilled workforce, training programs, easy access to materials, and a global logistics network. Missouri exports $15.6 billion in manufacturing products to 196 countries every year. There are more than 8,000 manufacturing establishments in Missouri, employing nearly 290,000 people in the field.

Missouri’s manufacturing industry is fast growing. According to the Missouri Economic Research and Information Center, the state saw 6.2 percent growth over five years, adding 16,392 jobs. This is more than double the national growth rate over the same period.

Manufacturing Day is a nationwide initiative aiming to highlight modern manufacturing, increase exposure to manufacturing careers and encourage collaboration among manufacturers to support their communities and future generations.
