img_115039 North, that was the name revealed on Wednesday morning for the new agtech innovation district taking root in St. Louis, Missouri. The name refers to the regions position on the 39th parallel of latitude that covers many of the world’s top agricultural locations.

The district will cover nearly 600 acres in Missouri and include many of the regions top agtech companies including Monsanto Co., the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, Bio-Research & Development Growth (BRDG) Park and the Helix Center Biotech Incubator. 39 North will be geared toward providing the lifestyle often sought by today’s highly skilled scientific workers, with a mix of retail, residential and office space connected by walking and biking trails.

“The strategic master plan to develop 39 North is an extension of Dr. Danforth’s vision to make St. Louis, Missouri a world center for plant science and innovation,” said Sam Fiorello, chief operating officer of the Donald Danforth Center and president of BRDG Park. “By connecting regional assets, improving mobility, creating development opportunities and additional green space we will enhance our ability to grow, attract and retain top companies and talent.”

In Missouri, the future of agtech is happening today. Big data, smart farming, input optimization, precision ag, biologicals, breeding, green chemistry, green pharmaceuticals, intellectual capital, an extensive agtech infrastructure, investors … it’s all growing right here.
