The University of Missouri-Kansas City this fall will begin offering a new degree for students who want a health career but aren’t ready for a professional program.
UMKC announced Monday that the School of Nursing will accept students for the bachelor of health sciences degree in the fall semester. The school said that there is growing demand for allied health care workers to take over some of the non-medical jobs that physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other professionals have to shoulder. The program will give students a background in such subjects as epidemiology, health care finance, technology and management, preparing them for careers in hospital administration, nutrition, and pharmaceutical or medical device sales.
