The Springfield region in Missouri is a great place for companies looking to grow, make, move, and connect. The region recently caught the attention of award-winning NPR podcast host Tom Wilmer. He spent several days in Missouri visiting with leaders in the community to learn more about what makes Springfield a leading destination for businesses, residents and tourists.
In the third episode of the series, Tom visits Silver Dollar City and meets with the people who bring the park to life.
Tom Wilmer, Journeys of Discovery Podcast Host:
What today resonates with your heartstrings (about Silver Dollar City)?
Brad Thomas, President of Silver Dollar City
“The people. The people of this place intrigued me as a kid, and they intrigue me today… The personalities and the hospitality are so important to overall guest experience. A lot of places have fun rides, those things may be what gets people to visit here, but the thing that keeps people coming back time and time again is our people.”
Tom visited with many of Silver Dollar City’s iconic artisans, including June Ward who’s been lovingly making candy there for 55 years. She made sure Tom had some sweets, because in her own words “sweet candy makes sweet people, and I won’t have any sour people walking around Silver Dollar City.”
