Bass Pro Shops, the Springfield, Missouri-based outdoor sports retailer, has agreed to buy competitor Cabela’s Inc. for $65.60 a share in cash, valuing the deal at about $5.5 billion.
Cabela’s employs over 19,000 in its 85 specialty retail stores, primarily in the western U.S. and Canada. Bass Pro Shops has 99 stores and Tracker Marine Centers primarily in the eastern U.S. and Canada. It employs about 20,000. White River Marine Group, whose brands include Tracker Boats, Sun Tracker and Nitro, is part of Bass Pro.
