Missouri’s Ag Ed on the Move Brings Agriculture Education into the Classroom

Developed by Missouri Farmers Care, the organization that launched the Agri-Ready County Designation, Agriculture Education on the Move™ (Ag Moves) is an innovative, interactive program designed to bring agriculture education directly into schools and communities across Missouri.

By bringing agriculture into the classroom in a way that is both informative and engaging, Ag Moves is helping to cultivate the next generation of leaders in Missouri, one of the top states for agriculture production and processing in the U.S.

Missouri’s agriculture industry is known for its diverse production of key commodities like soybeans, corn, cattle, poultry, and hogs. With over 87,500 farms, mostly family owned, agriculture contributes nearly $94 billion to Missouri’s economy, supports over 450,000 jobs, and plays a crucial role in exports. The industry embraces innovation, with advances in technology, sustainability, and agribusiness, all while maintaining strong ties to the state’s rural heritage and economic growth.

Ag Moves engages more than 10,000 elementary students annually through ten hands-on lessons. Ag Moves educators visit classrooms and cover a wide range of topics from understanding the life cycle of crops to discovering the science behind food production. By incorporating the curriculum into elementary classrooms, the program is making agriculture literacy accessible and exciting.

Ag Moves opens the eyes of elementary students to agriculture in their daily lives. When students see their connection to agriculture, they can often see a future career for themselves in the industry. The ten lessons are delivered in partnership with hundreds Missouri FFA members and collegiate agriculture education students who build classroom experience and polish their leadership and public speaking skills while bringing their career goals into focus.

Missouri Farmers Care is a joint effort by Missouri’s farming and agriculture community to stand together for the men and women who provide the food and jobs on which our communities depend.
