Missouri Business Attraction Project, Google, Wins Business Facilities’ 2024 Impact Award

Missouri was honored with Business Facilities’ 2024 Impact Award for Google’s $1 billion investment in the state. For its Impact Awards, Business Facilities recognizes projects across a range of categories that are having or are expected to have a significant impact on the communities in which they are located.

In March 2024, executives at the global technology company gathered with state and local leaders to announce Google’s new $1 billion data center in Kansas City, Missouri. The project is expected to create over 1,000 construction jobs and more than 1,400 positions connected to the data center, including roles in logistics and warehousing.

Google’s significant investment in Kansas City is poised to deliver long-term benefits. The tech giant’s commitment of hundreds of millions of dollars will boost the region’s economy in numerous ways while strengthening Kansas City’s growing reputation.

As part of its commitment to sustainability, Google plans to power the facility with 400 megawatts of carbon-free solar energy from the Beavertail Solar farm in Missouri. This initiative aligns with Google’s goal to operate on 24/7 carbon-free energy.

Additionally, Google is expanding its free Skilled Trades and Readiness (STAR) program to the Kansas City area and contributing over $100,000 to the North Kansas City School District’s alternative education STEAM center, which focuses on science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics.

Missouri Governor Mike Parson and Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas have both praised the project, highlighting the state’s skilled workforce, infrastructure, and business-friendly environment as key factors in attracting Google’s investment. Learn more about Google’s $1 billion investment in Missouri
