Square Inc., a leading financial services company located in the Cortex Innovation Community in St. Louis, Missouri, is doubling its footprint and creating an additional 300+ new jobs.
Square is a cohesive commerce ecosystem of payments, hardware, and software that helps sellers start, run, and grow their businesses. The company first established their presence in St. Louis in Cortex’s @4240 Building in September 2015 with 200+ new jobs to support their growing mobile payments company.
“We’re excited that Square will continue to call Missouri home,” said Governor Eric Greitens. “We’re grateful for the hard work of all the partners in this project, fighting to keep our state competitive. Their efforts have ensured the company’s continued growth in Missouri and let everyone around the country and around the world know that Missouri is open for business.”
“Square is proud to be from St. Louis and thrilled to expand our presence here, where we’ve exceeded our growth expectations thanks to the wealth of local talent,” said Jim McKelvey, co-founder and director of Square. “St. Louis is home to tens of thousands of Square sellers and we’re thankful for the support of our city and state partners in furthering their growth. We’re excited for what’s ahead.”
“We’ve had a great relationship with Square the past few years, so it makes sense that they chose us as a location to continue their growth,” said Sheila Sweeney, CEO of the St. Louis Economic Development Partnership. “St. Louis is growing and Square is a company that has led to its growth.”
“Square is a success story for our region, and a tremendous effort by our partners Missouri Partnership and St. Louis Economic Development Partnership to bring over 300 new tech jobs to Cortex and St. Louis,” said St. Louis Regional Chamber President and CEO Tom Chulick. “This is the message we want to share with other companies like Square: St. Louis is place where you can find the talent and supportive community you need to grow and innovate.”
“Our objective in Cortex is to build a community of innovative companies, entrepreneurs and employees. Square checks all of these boxes,” said Dennis Lower, President and CEO of the Cortex Innovation Community. “Square’s expansion is a win for the District, the City and the region. It sends a strong message that St. Louis has a competitive value proposition for expanding tech companies that require a talented, diverse workforce.”
