Deli Star Wins Family Business Award

Deli Star Corporation, a family-owned Missouri manufacturer of prepared meal proteins and deli solutions, recently received the St. Louis Business Journal’s Family Business Award.

Deli Star cut the ribbon on its new headquarters in St. Louis earlier this year. Missouri Partnership worked with Deli Star after their previous production facilities were destroyed by a fire in January 2021. Following the fire, Deli Star executives began searching for new locations – exploring local, regional, and out-of-state options. After an extensive, highly competitive search, Deli Star selected St. Louis for its new base of operations, thanks in part to its highly skilled and available talent pool, low business costs, and world-class quality of living.

Deli Star’s 110,000 sq. ft. facility produces the company’s world-class proteins, including sous-vide proteins, slow cooked meats, deli logs, protein salads, sauces, and plant-based proteins.

Deli Star was founded in 1987 by Dan Siegel, who tapped into the knowledge he acquired getting a Ph.D. in food science focused on cooking, pasteurization and vacuum packaging. His son, Justin Siegel, stepped into the role of President at the company in 2014. His brothers Andrew and Derek Siegel are Vice President of Supply Chain and the company’s attorney, respectively. Tom Siegel, Justin’s uncle, sits on the Board.

The company’s commitment to “purpose, vision and family values” extends beyond just the biological family members at Deli Star, Dan Siegel said. “We have a people-first culture. We take it very seriously, and it’s allowed us to attack a lot of the challenges that come with a family business.”

“We were very fortunate to work with our economic development partners to help bring Deli Star to Missouri, and keep it in the greater St. Louis region,” Missouri Partnership CEO Subash Alias said, when the project was announced. “Deli Star was approached by numerous states and communities as it began looking for a location to rebuild its headquarters. The fact that we were able to keep it in the region is a testament to the strengths of both our workforce, and our overall business climate. We have had a lot of interest by food processing companies here in Missouri. I look forward to seeing Deli Star Corporation thrive here in our state.”
