Amazon Opens New Sortation Center in Liberty, Missouri

Global e-commerce giant Amazon recently opened a new sortation center in Liberty, Missouri. The 517,000 sq. ft. facility is the first in the Kansas City metro, and is expected to create more than 750 new jobs in the region.

“Our facility will continue Amazon’s mission to be the most customer-centric company, and we have career openings available with an amazing team and aim to create more great jobs as we grow,” said Amazon Site Leader Mikenna McEntee. “Additionally, we look forward to deepening our relationship with the city of Liberty and the surrounding communities we serve.”

Amazon’s sortation centers serve its “middle mile” operations, categorizing customer orders by final destination and consolidating them onto trucks for faster delivery. The company said it opened the new Liberty facility in response to customer demand, and that it will serve as a Midwest hub helping it optimize its capacity to meet customer delivery expectations with its peak holiday season upcoming.

Amazon has invested heavily in the Show-Me State in recent years.

In July, Amazon opened its newest distribution center in Ashland, Missouri. In May of 2021, Amazon announced that its first fulfillment center in the state, which was expected to hire around 1,500 workers, is currently 6,000 employees strong and growing. In April 2021, Amazon announced plans to open a new delivery center in Blue Springs, Missouri. And in February 2021, Amazon announced plans to open a new “sort center” in St. Louis. Amazon opened its new 1.3 million sq. ft. fulfillment center in Republic, Missouri, in August of 2021.

The company also put more than 1,000 Missourians back to work following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Missouri provides an ideal location for Amazon due to its central location in the U.S., low cost of doing business, and highly skilled labor force.
