Thermo Fisher Scientific, a life science company, has opened a new 3,500 sq. ft. facility in St. Louis, Missouri, as part of an ongoing investment that could potentially create up to 250 new jobs in the region. The company said it opened a new Bioprocessing Collaboration Center at its campus in north St. Louis County, where it operates a biologics drug substance manufacturing facility.

The new facility is located adjacent to the company’s manufacturing operations and is designed to allow several of Thermo Fisher’s businesses to team up in the development of new products and services.

“This collaboration center allows us to rethink how single-use manufacturing happens,” said Paul Jorjorian, Thermo Fisher’s St. Louis Site Lead and Vice President and General Manager of Biologics. “It allows us to attract top talent to the area. It’s certainly something I’m really excited about and allows us to ultimately better serve our customers, both as we do manufacturing for them here but also as Thermo Fisher offers equipment, etc. to the broader market.”

Thermo Fisher’s new collaboration center comes as the company recently invested $50 million as part of an expansion that involves doubling its manufacturing footprint locally. In addition to that project, the company has closed on the purchase of a nearby building acquired from the University of Missouri – St. Louis.

As part of its continuing expansion in St. Louis, Thermo Fisher expects to grow its local head count by roughly 250 employees. The company has hired about 100 workers so far in roles that include operations, quality, process development and process engineering.
