The Missouri Department of Economic Development (DED) today announced that Select Plastics, LLC, a custom plastic sheet extrusion manufacturer, is expanding to Scott City. The Scott City facility is the company’s first location in Missouri. The expansion project includes a $5.3 million capital investment and is expected to create 28 new jobs.
“Missouri’s strong and capable workforce continues to attract the attention of growing companies that create good-paying jobs and support our local communities,” said Director Mike Downing, Missouri Department of Economic Development. “Select Plastic’s announcement today is a big win for Scott City and we’re proud to work with them to move Missouri’s economy forward.”
Select Plastics is a privately owned custom sheet extruder that was founded in 1997 in Fort Worth, Texas. The Scott City location will be the company’s first expansion outside of the Fort Worth area. Select Plastic’s commitment to meeting client demand with innovative, custom products and services has spurred significant growth over the past decade. Locating in Missouri will put Select Plastics in closer proximity to its expansive Midwest customer base.
“Investing in Scott City is a smart business strategy. We were impressed by all the resources Missouri has to offer from a central geographical location to a low-tax environment,” said Greg Nagel and Steve Ploeger, managing partners of Select Plastics. “But the real selling point was the wide availability of highly-skilled workers that will help make our expansion to the Midwest a true success.”
“Our dedicated workforce is our most valuable asset, and I’m thrilled to see companies like Select Plastics reaffirm that by expanding and hiring here in our area,” said Scott City Mayor Tim Porch. “Select Plastics’ investment in our community will have profound effects on our local economy, and I’m proud to welcome them into our business community.”
To assist Select Plastics with its expansion, the Department of Economic Development has offered a strategic economic incentive package that the company can receive if it meets strict job creation and investment criteria. The Cape Girardeau Area MAGNET, Scott County Officials, and local business leaders also partnered with Select Plastics to assist in its expansion.
