Emerald Automotive, a British company, plans to build hybrid electric vans and add 580 jobs at a new $175 million plant in Hazelwood, the St. Louis Business Journal reports.

Hazelwood’s city council on Wednesday night approved a $3 million loan for the plant. The Missouri Technology Corp. also plans to provide a $2 million loan for the factory. Emerald Automotive officials said they looked at 25 different states and visited nine of them before picking Missouri.
