Beyond Meat, a plant-based burger startup, announced its plan to expand and triple its production capacity in Columbia, Missouri. The new plant is expected to create 250 new jobs.

“We first came to Missouri in 2009 to access the outstanding research being conducted at the University of Missouri,” said Ethan Brown, CEO and founder of Beyond Meat. “We have been investing in, and growing together with, Columbia, MO ever since, and I’m pleased to announce this latest manufacturing investment, our largest to date. Our expansion not only brings more jobs and opportunity to this special community but also furthers Missouri’s position as a leader in the production of plant-based meat.”

The expansion is expected to increase Beyond Meat’s current footprint from 30,000 to 100,000 sq. ft., and will feature high efficiency lighting and new water recirculation systems that reduce consumption by nearly 80%.

Missouri’s robust food production sector includes nearly 400 companies, with the capacity for many more, and Missouri gives food solutions companies rapid access to global markets, extensive distribution options, a friendly regulatory environment and access to a diverse customer base.
