All month long Missouri Partnership is taking a look back at 31 of Missouri’s biggest stories in economic development from the past year. Today we take a look back at Kansas City’s recognition as the most connected city on earth.
On May 17, Kansas City, Missouri became the most connected city on earth, beating out Barcelona who had previously held the title. The Missouri city claimed the title after Sprint Corporation launched its free Wi-Fi along the city’s new 2.2-mile streetcar route, putting 50 blocks and more than 22,000 residents under a free Wi-Fi umbrella.
Kansas City was also named as one of the top 10 cities in the U.S. for tech startup growth in 2016, and has benefited from being the first city in the nation to receive Google Fiber.
